Already using solar panels for our home, this little panel makes great sense for our camper. So far it has kept the battery powered even though we have not had the panel for very long.

I installed this on my trailer roof and will see when I get home from visiting family if my battery is fully charged. It’s a great idea to keep your RV or other recreation use batteries charged up, which also extends the battery life. Made of flexible material that is strong enough to walk on. I will experiment on the best place to permanently install it based on how much sun hits certain areas. I plan to get one for my son for his camper. Nothing worse than a dead battery.

This is a basic, unregulated solar panel. Some markings on the package indicate that it can be flexed up to 20 degrees, although other markings in the package say “do not bend panel.” In practice, it will flex slightly – about 3/8″ in the center – with about the same stiffness as a piece of corrugated cardboard. The construction is thick plastic and is definitely tough. The wiring is protected by a connection “block” that also has a blue LED that illuminates in ambient light. The main connector is a standard barrel plug, 5.5mm. It comes with a male 12v cigarette lighter plug, and a set of large alligator clips that are big enough to fit automotive battery posts.
Open circuit voltage is about 21 volts. I achieved a maximum output of 4.1 watts – 320 mA at 12.85 volts – using some newer AGM batteries. Output varied down to 90 mA as the panel was angled from optimum to flat. The high voltage and available current, combined with lack of regulation and/or charge controller, makes this unsuitable for semi-permanent connection to a lead-acid battery. It will overcharge if left connected long enough.
It does work great however for charging small devices. It works great with 12v to USB chargers and I was able to charge various items like cell phones, laptops (albeit slowly) and rechargeable flashlights easily. When charging a phone, the charge rate was similar to using a wall charger; I was able to charge my phone from 5% to 80% in a couple of hours of afternoon sun. Maximum output while charging various small devices was 3.8 W. This would be great for backpacking, camping or emergency use. Cost is rather high compared to similarly rated panels, but this one is definitely built tough.

Works great. Read the wattage and Amps to make sure it will work for your needs. I am using as a trickle charger on my motor home.
