9 W Solar Charger Kit works well
Posted by Ross Hartman
I bought this kit after seeing a short video and reading the blog post on how this would work on a kayak. I am planning on traveling where places to recharge are far and few between so I need something to keep the ‘essential’ electronics charged up. So far with my ground based testing this unit seems to work well. I can recharge my phone, GoPro, InReach, and headlamp in the evening while charging up the main battery during the day with the solar cell. So far I have had sunny days so it is best case. This testing was at 37N deg latitude in late November-December at 7000′ altitude.

Solar charger kit
Posted by Kalen Hartel
So far working excellent powering a Gopro for a 4 month time lapse. Only a few weeks in to it but the solar panel keeps the battery bank at 100% and the camera functioning smoothly. One thing I liked is it will fast charge a cell phone almost better then my wall charger. I have no doubt this thing will continue to perform for my needs and let me get some sleep at night knowing my time lapse won’t be failing due to power issues. Let’s hope everything else goes to plan!

Great kit!!
Posted by Sylvain
I bought it for charging head lamps/tent light batteries, phone, radio. Works perfectly. Highly recommended, light and efficient battery, charged fast with the panel when sun shines. The waterproof/heavy duty panel is also great. I called Voltaic team in Brooklyn for advices on another purchase and customisation of my equipment , they rock and are very nice.

Light and powerful
Posted by Félix-Antoine Tremblay
I’ve used one of these for multiple trips including three of four months where this was my main/only source of energy and it hasn’t let me down.
I use a phone, a camera, a headlamp and two bicycle lights with this system. I strap the panel at the back of my bicycle.
Good :
– Light (just as heavy as the battery it powers)
– Powerful (charges the battery in one day if sunny or a week if rainy)
– Reliable (never had an issue that was not caused by dropping it)Could be improved :
– The power cable could be tougher (the cable is tied strait to the panel and will break if the panel is dropped. I use tape on the cable at the edge of the panel to provide some protection, but I wish the extension cord was plugged strait into a rigid connector so the extension would be the one absorbing the impact)
– The loops on the corners are too small (even the smallest bungee cord won’t fit in them, so I need to have a cable around the loops. If the panel is dropped, the screw and the loop are prone to breaking)
– The panel needs a 4 foot or more extension cord (it is a must if you plan to move while charging. I wish it came with the panel or that the description of the item had a mention of this) -
