Purchased this pump to make a DIY hummingbird fountain. Pump works instantly when sunlight hits the solar panel. However, it must be in full, direct sunlight. I tried to install it in sunlight that is filtering through a large Crepe Myrtle tree, it will not work. Just make sure there is absolutely nothing between the sun and the solar panel, and it’s an awesome little pump. This is not a solar panel that charges up with sunlight. It will only work during direct sunlight hours, as there is no battery being charged by the sun. Great pump for daytime use. Suction cups on bottom to hold pump in place, and includes clear tubing to pump the water further away if you want to hide the pump, and not place nozzles directly on top of the pump.

This small solar water pump does the job as a simple water bubbler. The amount of water uplift is perfect for my birds. The solar panel does the job. I wish the solar panel had a design for securing it properly. I live in Texas hurricane waters. I used a wooden block and plastic ties to clamp it down. Hopefully, the pump lasts for a while. Only time will tell. The price is right!!

UPDATE: After more than a year, pump is still working great. As long as you clean gunk out of the pump every so often, it will last a while. Honestly, I’ve only cleaned it three times so far.
As soon as I put this out in the sun it started working. I am using it as a hummingbird fountain and it’s perfect for that. I rigged up the fountain according to a youtube video I saw. Very easy assembly, the tubing that comes with it fits perfectly to the base of the pump. If you wanted to purchase additional tubing, the opening is right at 5/16″. As you can see and hear in the video, it has a very strong flow coming up through the nozzle, I have the pump sitting at the bottom of an old planter and the water is pumping up through about 8″ of tubing and is doing a pretty good job pushing water up and out at that distance. For a small pump, it is surprisingly powerful. I’ve had it for 2 months and I haven’t had to clean the filter yet, but not much can get through the small holes I’ve made in the top cover, it keeps leaves and other debris from clogging filter.
Two months later, it’s still working very well. I also observed the fountain working in complete cloud coverage on a few occasions. It wasn’t coming out as high as it was in the video, but it was a steady flow, to be honest, it is not the norm, most overcast days it does not work. The still photo was taken in the rain and you can see how well it was pumping out. The video was taken on a sunny day, but in a partly shaded area. It doesn’t work at all at night, but it’s not expected to, it has no battery back up. I would definitely purchase another one.

the pumps are real small and so is the solar panel you need to re adjust the panel over the course of the day for it to keep working I had to use both of them for one fountain so it works in the morning and afternoon will not buy this again they are installed in my fountain or I would have send them back Also they have no attachments to mount panels

I love this because they supply tubing, making it very easy to turn whatever you have around the place into a cute fountain.

Works fine except it is hard to get the pump to stick to ceramic. I had to weigh it down with rocks. The flow is too light for what I needed. Will have to buy something bigger.

I had high hopes I guess, I live in FL, so solar seems like a winner. There are a few different issues. They give you no way to attach the solar panel to anything, so get creative. Then the tubing they give you doesn’t fit any of the attachments, and we tried heating it and everything… again get creative or buy your own tubing. The last thing is that it needs full, direct sunlight. If there is even the lightest cloud it stops working. A “bright” day wont be enough, it must have the full, direct sunlight. We haven’t decided if we’re going to keep it or return it.
Update: we kept it, got creative hoping for the best. Not one bird ever went to it to use it. I’m pretty surprised. I won’t be buying another one of these.

This only works while the sun is hitting the solar panel.
Was working good in the Koi pond which is pretty clean. Nozzle clogged immediately when we moved it to the dirty duck pond. Took the spray pattern tip off, and it works fine.
*Update. Moving this down a star.
Definitely not for use in a duck pond. Stopped working after a week.
