Bought as a replacement for a 10 year old solar powered air pump. This pump did not work for even 10 minutes. It is being returned for a refund. I would not recommend this item.

I really like this product, I have an aquarium set up in my greenhouse and it does a good job with keeping the water aerated (when it is on). The only problem I have it that the tubing on the base keeps falling off due to the vibrating and I won’t often know until the next day when I go back inside to check on everything.

PROS: cheap, battery backup Cons: it is difficult to have the air stones both work unless they are very close to each other. Sometimes these units make an annoying noise – I’m not sure why. The cheaper unit (smaller solar panel) will sometimes just not work even when in full sunlight.

This would be a fine, modestly-priced aerator for an indoor aquarium or deep, clean patio pond. The solar panel and pump controls are great for the price, but it’s not right for backyard ponds or natural settings. Here’s why: First, in order to work, the airstones must drop straight down (not too deep), and not touch the bottom of the pond. (Bottom of an aquarium would probably be fine.) If they go to the bottom, they very quickly become clogged with muck or algae. (The instructions say to remove and clean the airstones about once a week, but I like lower-maintenance installations.) Second, STRAIGHT down is very hard unless you’re simply dealing with an aquarium. One needs an edge, such as an aquarium rim or something from which to hang the tubes with the airstones, OR a float from which they can hang (not included, of course), leaving the non-submersible pump on the shore. Otherwise, the stones just go to the bottom and get clogged. I created a float, then had to create a way to affix the tubing to bottom of the the float, then had to figure out a way to keep the float from drifting into shallow water and dragging the airstones on the bottom. Kind of a fun challenge, but not everyone wants to go through that. Bottom line was that the kluge bubbled merrily in my natural, fairly warm pond for a few hours, then the airstones clogged with algae (from the water itself, not the bottom), the pump pressure rose and the tube blew off the pump. Not worth the trouble to fix it, I’m afraid. Just a long-winded explanation and suggestion to use this inexpensive system in your indoor aquarium or deep balcony pond, not your yard or garden.

Great touch for our bird bath. It keeps the water from getting disgusting.

This started really well but after a week it just stopped working and leaving it in the sun, it would make bubbles for a few minutes and then it stopped while still being in full direct sunlight. Ended up removing and buying a different one.

This seems like an awesome pump for a small pond . I keep my little pond cleaned and use natural algee eliminator , unit has some weight seems well made , power line and air hose are both long , I’m only using one stone , and it it working great ! Now I just need to make a small pump house to keep it out of the rain . I recommend this pump for small ponds or water feature. My pond is around 25 gallons and concrete . If you have a large natural pond you’re going to need a larger pump.
