My old mini-split in the garage kept leaking coolant, so I looked for a higher-quality brand. I found this one with really good specs and a nice size, and I had to give this one a try. I was not disappointed; this one has worked out great. First off, I love how easy this one was to install and with no issues too. Came with everything, the hoses, wiring, mounting brackets, and really easy-to-understand instructions too. Install was in place of another one, so the hole was already there. The hoses easily fit and connected to the outside unit easily as well. Wiring was easy, already had the outside connections, so all in all, took me just under two hours to install. Secondly, it works great. I like how it puts out the cool and is so quiet when it does it, too. It is so nice how it brings the garage to temp and keeps it at temp too. The remote control adjusts the temperature and modes and does it from a pretty good distance as well. Lastly, I really like the outside unit, which is a lot quieter than my old one, and the neighbors even mentioned it too. Also, I highly recommend testing the connections with soap water and look for bubbles. I had one fitting I did not tighten enough, and found it that way, and is a foolproof test too. No cons, it really worked out great for me, and I am very happy with the purchase.

Loved this product and it made a world of a difference! We used this in our garage which has no insulation inside and it completed cooled down the space. The unit came in two separate boxes but it has everything you need to set it up, although my husband is very handy and good at figuring things out. It is very quiet you can barely hear that it is on. There’s also fan options which allow you to adjust the speed. We haven’t tried the heating feature yet because it is very hot out. There is a timer feature on here as well which is great. We have been turning it off at night but leaving it running for most of the day to keep the space cool. Would absolutely recommend this unit for anyone looking to cool down their space!

This unit works great. Quiet. Almost makes no noise. It will pay for itself in about a year. No need to cool the entire 4000 sf house with a 5 ton A/C unit when my wife and I are sitting in the kitchen nook most of the time. EZ to install. I installed mine from start to finsh in about 3 hours, not counting many trips to the hardware store. Just watch the installation video a few times. It comes with everything you need for basic installation, but I think most people would want to buy extra stuff unique to their own install. Comes pre-charged with freon. The system needs to be evacuated prior to opening the lines. Sounds complicated, but it’s not. Just watch the couple minute video. It’s as ez a screwing in a light blub. Orielly’s auto parts rents the vacuum pump to evacuate the lines for free or just buy one on amazon for about $125. I simply plugged my unit into a regular 110volt outlet. Most video’s say not to do that. This unit uses about the same electricity as a refrigerator or a space heater, or a microwave, so whats the big deal. Nothing has exploded or burnt up yet. Check the fuse rating on the outlet, mine was fine. I am planning on installing another costway mini-split in my master bedroom and maybe the garage. Highly recommended.

Installed the 120 v version of this unit in my garage and was blown away with how efficient, effective and quiet it is. Love the unit. 5 stars for the unit. But, and this is a big one. I wanted to remove the grill on top of the unit to clean the filter per the instructions in the owner’s manual (photo attached). Customer support referred me to an e-mail address that is supposed to be tech support. WHAT A JOKE!!! After half a dozen e-mails with someone named “Sunny” which were less helpful than a 6 year old (one e-mail asked me for a picture of what I was talking about (a so-called rep from the company that provides tech support for one of its products is asking ME for a picture!). Finally I got this response from someone named “Eileen”: “We have contacted with our factory that You can’t open it directly from above, you can open it from the places marked in our diagram. Hope this is helpful”. Not my grammar, “Eileen”s. Take a look at the attached picture. See any “places marked in our diagram?”. Didn’t think so. So, if you want a great unit that really performs, this one is for you. But if you ever need any sort of assistance with your unit, you are out of luck because any help you are going to get doesn’t exist. Thus, the one star.

For the first week or two, this machine did not like running anywhere near freezing. It completely iced over on the protective screen. Thus it could not the ice and make any heat. Once I discovered, the icing was on the protective screen, I took it off. Then it worked much better. Heated my home down to -17 Cthe coldest day this winter. But!, When there’s high humidity around 0° This device struggles to make heat. It doesn’t like the high humidity conditions. It ices over and spends most of its time deicing. I don’t know if there’s a solution to fix that. Or if it’s a problem with justice model, or if this is a common problem on all heat pumps. That being said, it ran flawlessly all winter. it might be that this heat pump is too small for my living space. In terms of near 0° high humidity conditions. I recommend getting a larger size then you need if you’re going to use it for heating. Probably in all brands.

This was my first mini split DIY install, all parts required were supplied with the unit, packaged well with no damage during shipping. Instructions were good enough for me, got it up and running in a couple days without complications. Unit instantly threw some good heat and cool air. Unit is very quiet, I think my wife is going to let me order a second one for the basement…

I’m speaking on two units I just installed over the past two weeks so this isn’t a full “reliability over time” review.
As described, the units arrived in two boxes each (the indoor unit with it’s bits in one box and the other bits in the outdoor box).
Since the units are economically priced and the performance ratings seem quite good, and I only need heat in the shoulder seasons before I switch to full on wood heat (vs the $$$ electric forced air), they seemed to fit the bill. The heating comment is based on the notes that these will work down to -10C (14F). I don’t know if that means the units will cease to work or if they will lose efficiency, time will tell.
With all that, I decided to do the install myself. Here is where you learn about vacuum pumps, gauges and oil (another ~$200), electrical cutoffs, codes, etc. Did my research before I ordered and the work involved seemed to be straight forward, including running 12/2 wire and conduit (and a new breaker / etc).
Following various install videos and a chat with an HVAC buddy of mine, I quickly determined the best approach and took it, and here’s what I learned:
– the 2″ hole required is going to be a tight fit, so when wrapping with the vinyl, make it tight. If one goes larger than 2″, note that the wall cap cover isn’t going to fit (as it’s 2″) and the larger hole will require more filling. – the drain hole in the bottom of the outdoor unit is 25 mm, and if you cannot drain directly out, you will need some extras for it (note the size). I installed my units onto a wood deck so I didn’t want the water just running wherever so I did this bit of extra, and here is where you need to know the size, which is in the manual – One has to remove all the plastic protective shipping covering from the indoor head to get the tape off, which has to be done to install the com wire. Make sure to take care when handling afterwards to not mark up the plastic.
Once the connections were made, line sets torqued to spec, vacuumed for 15 minutes and vacuum leak checked via gauge, everything in place and electrics connected, only then I opened the valves to release the R32 gas and pressure checked all the fittings again for leaks ( with a 50/50 soapy water solution).
Verifying no leaks, time to throw the power. LEDs lit up and with some batteries in the remote, I had the unit pumping out heat within minutes of turning on the main power.
The units so far work as planned. The heat stability in the house is better than ever (haven’t had to cool with them yet, may update after next summer). They are very quiet, even the outdoor units are near impossible to hear inside, and outside it’s mostly a whirring fan sound.
Now, why the support comment? One outdoor unit arrived in a damaged box, which I didn’t notice until after the delivery guy was long gone. When I opened the box, I noticed that the unit had a considerable dent on the business end (connectors / electrics / control unit). I contacted Costway via the Amazon contact process, complete with explanation and photos of the box and the unit, and in less than 24 hours they had a new outdoor unit on it’s way. If I could complain about anything it would be the nearly two weeks to wait for the new unit (same time to get the original one). However as I was not intending to install them right away (and I had one good unit to install currently) and Costway DID CHECK to see if the time to receive it was OK, and it was so I’m not faulting anyone.
So far so good, and time will tell. At this stage I’m recommending my friends and family to consider these units as I now know what is involved for the install, and they work well (they are quiet and throws heat, cooling shouldn’t be an issue, and reasonable to install with what’s provided).
