We have used this trying to warm up the pool water and it is not working at all. Pumps out cold water. We live in Florida with plenty of sun but this product is not doing anything at all. Very dissapointed.

The good: 4 of these did a great job heating our 3000 gallon pool. I estimate it increased the temp by 10-12° in the Pacific Northwest.
The note-worthy: We had to increase our pump capacity to use 4 solar panels and the Intex skimmer.
The bad: 2 of them failed at the seams within 6 weeks, causing 1/3 of the pool water to leak out each time. We took great care to protect these, but they failed anyway. Neither Intex nor the seller would refund our money, which is disappointing since I don’t want to risk losing so much water in the pool and wrecking our pump if the water level gets too low.

Many people complained about them leaking. Sure enough, one of ours sprung a leak where the 2-way valve connects. I applied a little E6000 adhesive to the flap over the joint where it was leaking and haven’t had any issue since. I should mentioned that is for a tiny 450 gallon, 8.5′ X 5.5′ X 2′ pool and it gets water from an adequate pump as suggested by Intex (sorry, I don’t know the model number).
I understand you shouldn’t have to fix it, but at the price these cost, and what they do and how their designed, you really don’t have many options. So sure Intex needs to make improvements, but listen, I have a 1 and half year old girl, summer is here and “We’re In This Together” with putting up with this pandemic so make due with what you have and get better results rather than complain and return something when you know there really won’t be a better option for a replacement because other options cost substantially more.
Would I suggest you buy these? In a pinch, Sure. Long term use? No. Most likely, you’re will leak, are you OK with adding a little glue to get by? Yes Stick to the suggestions about pool size they work in though. For our tiny pool, this pair is great, but if the pool held 3 times the woofer, I feel you would need more of these panels to warm the water effectively. I mean, you only need to raise the temp to about 85 – 88 so it feels great but I guess it depends on how low the temp gets in your case. For us, the water drops to mid 60s over night. Letting the pump run when the sun comes out gets it to the right temp in about 4 hours.
Anyway, hope this helps.

We were a little skeptical at first but after a day of brand new cold water from the hose this warmed it up so that it was very comfortable and the pump we had at the time sucked. So id definitely get it if you need a heater

If you want instant gratification go get an electric or gas powered pool heater. If you are okay with it being warmer on some days and colder on other days? Solar power is fine. Will 1 or 2 mats work? Depends on the size of your pool. Most people will need 4 to 6 mats to actually make a big difference. People keep saying they’re blowing apart.. well that’s probably cause they put the water through the mats full throttle. Just think about it.. in order to heat the water you want it to be in the hot mats as long as possible that way it has time to heat the water. You’re never going to or want it to be coming out at full pressure. That’s not how they work. You want to be able to control the water pressure going through it at all times. So if you get a diverter and Crack it open it will allow the water to “heat”. Are they the best thing to heat the pool? Probably not. You can build something similar for cheap or you can spend the money and just try them out. But just remember intex is only compatible with intex… otherwise you need to MacGyver it and go thru all the fails until it works.
So do they work. Sure, with modifications.

Ordered 2 sets of these (4 total) and have had them installed for 6 months now. Read a lot of reviews about bursting/leaking and I can only assume it’s because people are trying these into their 1 hp+ pool pump. I got a cheap submersible pump that only has a flow rate of 60gph which is much closer to what they recommend for these panels. Too much pressure and of course they will leak. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
But beware these are NOT solar panels. They are simply black mats with coiled black waterways that passively heat the water. Similar to leaving a black hose cooled up in the sun. However they DO work. Raised my inground pool temp about 5-6 degrees. I’m planning on adding 2 more to hopefully raise the temp closer to 10 degrees.
