my vehicle sits for long periods of time – I don’t go to the office hardly ever and when I do drive to the grocery store, its the 35miles per gallon commuter that I take instead of the 14 mpg weekend warrior truck. Unfortunately, this means that my battery dies after about 30 days due to accessories drawing power like remote starter, antitheft system, etc. I ordered a 10W solar charger that did NOT do the job and the battery still died while connected to it in sunny arizona. I returned that charger and ordered this one. Well, once again my battery didn’t have enough power to start the engine, and instead of jumping to start it, I attached this solar charger and let it sit. After 24 hours the batter once again had enough power to start the engine. Im happy with the power this produces and if left attached, it keeps my batter charged enough for starting – although my neighbors hate me because now I move my car out of the community / guest parking even less since I don’t need to start it as often to re-charge the battery via the alternator 😀

Works great just a little hard to figure out at first if you are new to solar. The instructions could be a little clearer but there is enough information to get you going. Only thing I dislike about the charge controller is that if the battery goes dead or beyond the low voltage setting. The error code comes on and will not start charging again untill you reset the code. So if your battery goes dead overnight and the sun comes out the next day no charge unless you spotted the error code. Perhaps there is a remedy for this I just don’t know it

Added this to a seldom used parade vehicle to help increase the stamina of an auxiliary battery for accessories during the day. It works surprisingly well. My only issue was one day I disconnected the battery from the system to hook it up to a trickle charger. When I hooked the battery back up to the solar system it was still charging, but the screen on the controller no longer worked so wasn’t sure if voltage was being properly regulated. I was able to exchange it, and have since made sure to disconnect the solar panel from the controller if I am disconnecting the battery. No further issues! Have already recommended it to friends.

Could be better and the screws to tighten the MC4 cable is not recommented. ETFE panel doesn’t seem to play nice with this panel repacement. I got this to use to keep the battery in my SUV AGM charged. Now don’t get me wrong it does start up with the unit dropping down to 10.6v for the low. Once you start up you can go like this all day long start and shut and start and shut. Once you add a load to the solar controller than is were it’s weakness is. This controller does light up at night to show me that panel is not charging battery and that the battery is charge is lower as well. I am security alarm that runs so the load is correct. Once the sun is up I see 14.0v to 14.5v when I first used it was much lower like 12.6v. I thought the battery was going on me. After using this kit the battery kept charging at stayed at 13.0v to 14.5v. Wow but only at night did it drop from 12.6 to 12.9v range.
I had to switch the panel the sun relfection was just way to much on the 20 watt solar panel from Topsolar I had to mount mine on my dash. I going to tell you what heavy noisy panel it is. Racket. I was able to fix that by using sound proofing menthod I knew. That solved that issue. I would still be using that if the glass panel wasn’t so reflective. This is better suited somewhere else. I keeping this kit though and might just get another 20 watt sinltce the controller can handle 136 watt on 12 volt system. This good start if your new to this solar power. TopSolar they go by a different name is under same parent company that sells a lot of products under Amazfit product line. I did a lot of research. I think most of what Topsolar is sold is what is made for them from another company that specializes in solar products. So your getting something really good just don’t know why they don’t make their solar controllers better way go cheap on those. Can’t change the settings when you do it always reverts back to the default settings. Out of the box it is set to 24H operation I did try 12H didn’t work right. No way to turn off load feature like it set to default. I don’t have anything attached to the load like a extra 12v socket connection I had got for another vendor solar kit that one was 12v 5 watts nope not again. You really need 30 to 50 watts to keep your battery at peak this can do but that is all you can use that kit for if you add charging your cell phone you can and it charges it faster than their topsolar 30s/30 portable panels does.
For the money I say yes. I shot a video on my Topsolar controller on the lower side of my dash and Topsolar 12v 20 watt panel on my dash.
Update, I have to concur with another reviewer this is not pushing out 20 watts more like 10 watts. 30 watt panel is less than 20 watts. You’ll need something like 50 – 55 – 60 watts. The way this panel works you can’t even run two devices on the USB charger is a dead giveaway. I am not buying anything else from this company code name topsolar ever again. This 12v 20w and their 30s 12v 30w portable solar device had to be sent back. They are not working as advertized.
I had ran some other test on the controller solar panel in the house and found out the panel is not pushing 20 watts. Solar Controller they give you is only 10 amp Need min of 20 amp Depends what you trying to use this kit for. Get a multi-tester and see for yourself.
Goodluck.

Some things to be aware of: When the battery is disconnected the controller will reset to the default parameters. Out of the box it appears to be setup for a regular car battery. Before you install it, look at a video on setting the controller up for your application as the manual is a little vague.
On a bright day it charged the my battery from 30% up to full. I did get the setting wrong initially and it kept charging with the float voltage going to 16.5V. I disconnected everything and it reset to factory defaults which were correct except that they have the total discharge setting for the load too low. I set it according to the YouTube video so that the total allowed discharge was 50%. The system works very well especially if you look up the recommended angle and direction on the NREL calculator.

I put this charging the 2 batteries that power our lighthouse lights. The light runs a total of 7 hours. This cell fully tops the batteries off within 2 hours after getting morning sun. I don’t know how the Chinese do it but they do! Neat Lil kit!
