I like that it will charge my phone or my lighter. I can charge a power bank when the sun is out and then charge my USB items from the power pack when it is convenient. The solar panel has enough power to directly charge my phone, which takes about 12 to 15 watts. I also have an electronic lighter, to light fires, that takes a USB charge to refill – a small electric future without fuels. Folds up small and is light enough to bring in a backpack. There is a USB fan that can be used in summer to keep cool by sunlight. I consider it a good buy for the price too.

If I flop it over my backpack while riding bike etc, it will hold one phone (left on, with occasional use) at mostly a constant charge, all day long. But if I use as intended, full sun exposure on a sunny day, you can charge a backup battery or several phones and get 3 or more times that. Keep whatever you’re charging out of the sun, and flip the top part backwards so it’s also out of the sun. Even if you can only stick your phone/battery/etc underneath, that’s probably fine on a typical summer day if it’s in the grass, for example.

We tested out the BigBlue and it worked really, really well. Charged phones and did everything it claimed. For front country camping, a great investment! For backpacking, not so much. I really don’t mind carrying weight backpacking (not an ultralight person or a gram counter and use to instruct it for a living), but this goes a step too far. It is heavy and bulky, so the there is not a great place to tuck this thing away. If you are thinking about getting this for backpacking, I do not recommend it! Continue researching and go with something a little more backpacking friendly.

This solar charger actually works as advertised. It charges as fast or faster than any battery pack I’ve used when in full sun. I did have to tent the charging pocket and first solar panel to create a cool space for my device. I tested it on an iPhone 12 and Samsung S21 and it worked equally well with both. I will be using this on my longer treks through the backcountry.

Actually works pretty well. Charged my helemt and phone. Takes a little longer but works good even with clouds and or through a window. Goes down to 57 dollars in middle of month for about 3 or 4 days every month.

I get 5-6W out of this thing, as expected for northern Europe. It’s sensitive to shading of one panel, you have to keep all of them in the sun. Weight is ~240g.

In what seems like a sea of solar chargers and power banks that either flat-out don’t work or work just enough to make you think you’re doing something wrong. It’s nice to find something that actually WORKS. …I know, right?
This thing is compact, lightweight, easy to use and it totally blew my ———- mind.
Fully charged a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 in 4 hours Fully charged a 100Wh (That’s a big power-bank) in 7 hours Fully charged a DVD player in 3 hours
Seriously .. I was blown away by this mighty little panel-array. The material is solid, the panels are the concentrating-type where angle is less important, it actually OUTPUTS what it’s RATED AT and having the ability to bring it anywhere means that this thing has earned a permanent spot in my camping/bug-out gear set.

I have changed my rating from 2 to 4.5. This would have rated a 5 except for my particular circumstances. I live in northern Wisconsin and bought this charger in December as a backup for when the power went out. Unfortunately it doesn’t work very well through windows, even on sunny days. Double pane windows block too much light. It will slowly charge a battery pack but will not work directly with my Apple devises. This is due to engineering constraints with Apple batteries NOT the charger. Now that the weather is warmer and I can put it outside it works great. I set it out and let it charge my battery pack during the day and then use the pack to charge my iPad and iPhone at night. I’m probably not saving a lot of electricity but with climate change here every little bit helps. BigBlue did get back to me and offered a full refund but I am keeping the charger. Kudos to BigBlue Help Desk.

Solar charging is much slower than the 14W that is advertised. 5V 2.4A does not equal 14W. The panel is 12W max, but it does not even reach that level of power. I got 7W max on my phone, but it fluctuated a lot between 3W and 7W. The pouch is not useful at all. The panel is quite long, not very practical.

So I have only just received this and have limited testing but it charged up two 20,000 mah battery packs 20% at the same time in just under 3 hours. Partly cloudy day, mostly full sun though. So given the pack sizes, and both charging at the same time, I’m impressed.
Most import, as my title says, is they fixed the Velcro on the pouch. Instead of one little strip where items can easily fall out, as a few reviews mention, leaving the pouch mostly useless, they updated it to have the Velcro run the entire length of the pouch. I wanted to mention this as I almost didn’t order it because of this issue but decided I’d try to maybe add a full strip myself. Well, no need. The Velcro strip is now useful and makes the pouch useful which adds to the overall build and usefulness of the solar charger. Just wanted everyone to know. Ordered June 2023.
