I saw some negative reviews on here about the power inverter and battery charger not cutting off. From my voltage readings, it operates just like it should. Some believe that a deep cycle RV battery should not be charged above 12.8 volts. In theory this is correct. What is not spelled out though is that the voltage of a charging battery vs. the voltage of that battery once off charger and settles are two different voltage readings. To properly charge a deep cycle battery, your charger should take it to at least 13.6 volts with most ranging to 13.8 volts. If one hooks up a charger and disconnects it once it hits the 12.8 volts, you really only have about a 1/2 charged battery. If one regularly only charges to 12.8 volts and maintains that specific voltage, it will actually cause the battery to stop taking much of any charge. As soon as the battery is used, it will drop quickly to the 12.2-12.4 volt which is the bottom threshold to need charged again. The way to correct this is to super charge the battery taking it up to 14.2 volts. A couple battery expert reports I have reviewed indicate that the solar units do this nicely. As long as you don’t go over this, you won’t hurt the battery. If charging from completely dead of 11.8-12.0 (Don’t let it get this dead) to a super charge of 14.2 and doing so quickly, then you have to let the battery vent to prevent explosions or high pressure warping plates. The solar charger doesn’t charge so fast as to cause these issues and cuts off where it should. (Car Alternators cut off in this range) So I believe some are nervous about seeing the higher voltages, but I haven’t seen any so high to be in danger of damaging the battery. In fact it is taking it to levels to get the most safe charge out of the battery. Once the charger is unhooked, let it settle for a few hours with no load and then measure the voltage. You should be around the 12.8 voltage mark. I have a standard lead acid battery. Bought the adapters to hook up to Zamp ready connector on my unit. (I replaced the 12 volt USB port in the trailer with USB 3.0 fast charger that also has a voltage readout.) The paperwork indicates it is also compatible with other battery types. No settings to change. Haven’t tried other battery types, but if I switch to one, I will put it on here and update my review.

UPDATE:
The replacement set works as advertised. I’m only giving it 4 stars because it still has a few shortcomings. Yes, it charges my RV battery, but, as previously mentioned, it has a few faults. On both units, all the terminal screws were loose and needed tightening. It bows across the top of the two hinged panels due to the frames being very thin. Also, the fact that the charge controller is not waterproof is a negative. I plan on adding a reinforcement bar to eliminate the bowing and some type of cover for the charge controller as well as tightening the screws. I deducted a star because I shouldn’t have to “fix” design defects or other things due to lax quality control.
So, this was dead on arrival, right out of the box. Zero voltage in full sunlight. I opted for a replacement, which is being shipped as I type, so I will update my review after receiving, and seeing if the replacement works. Overall, it is very lightweight. Will likely need to secured it in windy conditions. Don’t get me wrong, I was looking for a lighter option to replace my older, heavy glass faced panels and this lighter feature appealed to me. The description states it’s weather resistant. The panels seem to be, but the attached charge controller clearly isn’t, so if rain or heavy, wet fog is in the forcast, it will need to be brought in. The legs are a bit flimsy and the panels sag along the hinges when opened. If the replacement works, I’ll plan on adding a brace to eliminate the sag and maybe a rubber flap over the charge controller to make it more weather resistant. Keeping my fingers crossed that the replacement will function as advertised.

I can already tell this is going to fit my needs. Plug it right up to my motorhomes batteries on the exterior & put it in the sun. No need for Integrating or drilling holes or running wires. & then easily folds up into the bag. Love it! Great invention! Update: after using off grid for several months the charging capabilities still hold strong. However the construction of the unit is a bit flimsy. I’d expect better quality hinges & legs for the price. The legs are flimsy & have bent very easily & have broken off their rivets. I will say however that the durability of the panels themselves is outstanding. It’s been thrown around in wind storms & rained on. Still works perfectly. So construction over all is flimsy. Durability is good.
Update nearly 2 years later, this is the best & most durable piece of tech my motorhome has in it. This thing has been stepped on. Thrashed around by wind. Rained on. Knocked on its face on cement & gravel. Dropped. Bent to close the wrong way & it still works perfectly. Great value & great durability!
